Advantages: easy to look after
Disadvantages: Never nice plucking a dead fish from your tank
We have 3 lots of fish at the moment:
-small guppy's that live in a 100L tank.
-Large Goldfish that live in a 100L tank.
-Large Goldfish that live in a 500L Fish Pond
Our two indoor fish tanks are identical and live end to end of each other , we set both tanks up at the same time by filling them with water , placing all the gravel, air bubble machines , "toys", heaters and plants in both tanks , then leaving the pumps running for about 3 weeks while everything was left to settle down . We done it like that because that's how the pet shop told us was best to do it and we had read on the internet that it was also a good idea.
We then got just a couple of gold fish for one tank and a few little guppy's in the other , This didn't last long , the guppy's were ....well , very friendly towards one another and about 8 turned into 30 odd in the case of about 9 months . Thankfully, they seem to understand that you can't build an extension onto the tank and have slowed down reproducing. The goldfish on the other hand are quite happy as a pair.
We have had our tanks running for about 3 years now and have the same gold fish , but younger generations of guppy's , the plant life has taken to good effect and has grown and taken over about a ¼ of the tank which both lots of fish seem to love loads .
We don't generally have issues with health in our tanks because we try to sanitise the water before refilling them once being cleaned by using a tap safe chemical, 1 drop for every litre of water put back. We have the odd fish that has died but found that the others seem to eat them before we get a chance of fishing it out by the morning.
There quite intelligent I think to an extent because every time we walk in with food in our palms , they all seem to swarm into one corner at the top .
Our outdoor fish on the other hand, are quite happily just swimming round with the waterfall pump running, we feed them every other day because they seem to get a lot of bugs fall in the water from the tree above them, we have had to cover it with green chicken wire because of the herons trying to eat them, but apart from that, there happy enough.
Not too sure if this had a point this review , but I feel in summer it goes to show that setting up a tank isn't difficult , just takes a little while to do properly and that keeping fish isn't hard at all
Summary: Always interestting to watch
