I have kept goldfish, ever since I was a small child, they are cheap colourful and can live a long time if they are cared for properly. My first fish Tom lived to the ripe old age of 16 and even so died as an unfortunate accident, yes you guessed it he was found dead on the floor one morning after a night’s aerobics. Sad. ... Working as a shop assistant in a pet shop, I used to hate fish! They just seem to make work. But since then, two little Goldfish have changed my mind. I was in the mood for spring cleaning, and my office was spotless for a change and my desk was clear, an idea struck! Why not put a gold fish tank on my desk. They are soothing to watch and they ... I've had several goldfish for many years now, along with several other varieties. I find them very relaxing to watch, and much easier to care for than many other types of pets. Goldfish enjoy cold water, and can be kept in a bowl or an aquarium. A heater is not necessary for them, as they thrive in much lower temperatures than their ... Read the complete review

We wanted a pet, a pet that didn't need walking every few hours, a pet that doesn't scatch the furniture, a pet that doesn't smell. Fish we thought, so we bought Freddy & Frank, two goldfish. We bought a small tank, (the smallest we saw 10 litres), we bought stones for the bottom, we bought fish food. That must be all they need we ... Read the complete review

Ok I know the idea of updating my pet opinions didn’t quite coincide with National Pet Week but hey ho! Goldfish are often looked upon as being ‘boring’. That title usually gets themselves into trouble though. Generally ‘boring’ reflects ‘easy’. Goldfish aren’t that easy to look ... Read the complete review

A relative to the carp, the goldfish can survive the harshest conditions. From a small bowl to a good size pond, goldfish adapt and grow according to their space. The more the space the larger the fish. I know somebody that has kept a fish in a bowl for 20 YEARS! The fish is only 10 cm.! My fantail in my 70 litre tank is about 17 cm., and I`ve had ... I wonder just how many children have bought goldfish, how many parents have agreed to their kids buying goldfish on account of how incredibly easy it is to look after them. So very very misguided. I confess to winning my first goldfish at a fair - although now I'm very much opposed to the practise - besides I thought it would have a ... Read the complete review

Last weekend we nearly had a funeral! My 6-year-old who seemed in a terrible state awaked me from my very pleasant slumber. Like any responsible parent I came to very quickly and uttered those immortal words WHAT ON EARTHS THE MATTER, followed by, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE... but before I could finish he blubbered "Nothing, its Goldie ... Let me make it quite clear from the start that keeping pets of any type in cages or tanks is abhorrent to me. Even those which have been bred in captivity. So to see goldfish given away as prizes at fairs and fetes had me querying the claim that humans in general are animal lovers. Every year kids throw their hoops or darts in the hope of ... I once had goldfish. three of them - won them all in a fair. We named them Bart, Lisa and Homer. Bart was mine, Lisa was my brother's and we shared Homer. Sadly, we looked after them a little too much, we practically cleaned out the bowl every hour. We realised what we were doing was harmful to the fish, but when we found out, it was too late. ... While stocking a pond, I have been visiting numerous garden centres/fish suppliers looking for goldfish and have been surprised at the poor health of some of the fish offered for sale. When buying goldfish, you should try to avoid buying from stockists who have interconnected tanks which allow the spread of water borne diseases. Fish with very ... Read the complete review

1. What is a goldfish? The ancestors of goldfish are the wild carp of Southern China that were farmed by the Chinese more than a thousand years back. The wild goldfish threw up a large number of genetic mutations that have been selectively bred by Japenese, North American and European enthusiasts. Today we have a large number ... Yeah, we all know goldfish make great pets. They are easy to look after, cheap, non-allergenic, non-smelly if you keep them clean, and look nice swimming about. But if you're going to get goldfish (and do get more than one - they get lonely!) I have a couple of pieces of advice for you. 1 - DON'T buy a goldfish bowl. They are ... Read the complete review

They may not be everyones favourite pet, you can't stroke them or take them for walks. But boy, they dont half relax you. There is something very relaxing about watching fish swim in a tank. I'm fairly new to keeping fish, about 3 months now. We bought a fairly large tank, a couple of filters and 7 goldfish, one of which is a lion ... Read the complete review

The last Goldfish that I had, was called 'Jaws'. I won him on one of those stupid fairground stalls, and was very excited that finally I had a pet goldfish. I took him home, borrowed an old fish tank off my next door neighbour, and placed him proudly on my shelf. I was very happy with 'Jaws'..I finally had a pet to call my own. I ... Every year I attend various fairs and summer fetes. At many of these I see stalls with goldfish as prizes. The fish are generally confined into a small plastic bag, half filled with what I presume is tap-water. I also see both adults and children, some very young, wandering around, clutching these bags with fish in. They get ... Read the complete review
