The picture for this review that you can see at the top of your screen is so cute! Guinea pigs really make amazing pets.
They are from Papa New Guinea, where they actually eat them! as they are full of protein.
I however do not eat them, and have had 4 very characterful guineapigs as pets. Here are my top tips for making sure your guinea pig has a very happy life:
*Get 2, guinea pigs are very sociable and get lonely without a friend to play with.
*Get a large wooden and waterproofed hutch. Also if they are kept outside, put a carpet over the roof and front to protect them from rain and to stop cats and other animals getting at them.
*Get them a run, lower and mostly made of mesh, so that they can run around on the grass safely and get some nice fresh air instead of being in the smelly hutch all the time.
*Feed them lots of greenery, not just hay or guinea pig food. They need things like carrots to keep their teeth short otherwise you need to take them to the vet to get their teeth trimmed.
*Cuddle them from the minute you get them so that they get tame, and also it makes them get used to the way you and your family smell.
*Bring them inside for cuddles and let them run around on the floor. The carpets, wooden floors and even stone are good for their claws and they love exploring! Ours even got toilet trained and we used to put paper down in a corner and they would only wee on that!
*Groom them with a baby brush at least once a week so all the old hair comes out and they dont get itchy.
*Talk to them, make their sounds as they like to communicate.
*Always put equal food out for each pig otherwise they will fight. Our girl pigs were very jealous of each others food.
*Ideally get 2 brothers, our first ones were these and they got on so well, when the first one died, the other died of a broken heart we think. It was so sad, even my dad cried.

They make really good pets for children, as they dont really bite, and like being cuddled. They are quite low maintenence if you compare them to say a dog.
Ours cost £5 each from a local lady, but I think now places are charging about £20!

Summary: Great pets for kids and adults

Guinea pigs love parsley. Mine used to, anyway. Makes their little cheeks go nineteen to the dozen! They're cute little guys.

My sister used to keep ginea pigs. Sweet littl critters.
