guppies are the rabbit of the fish world; they are born to breed (or practice). For this reason, even if you are planning on breading you should ensure you have at least 2 females for every male (this is so one lady gets to rest while the other is 'in use') to stop them getting stressed, sick & dying. They live to be about 2 years old, the males are prettier, slimmer than females. I had my fish tank about 6 or 7 months now. When I first had it i went mad, buying any fish I could, or liked the look of. At first I got some tetras and silver sharks, the next week, it was pay day, time for some more fish. I went in and there was about 5 tanks full of these colourful little fishy's. When I first bought my Fish tank I went mad buying allsorts of fish including Guppies. Guppies are scientifically known as the Poecilia reticulata and have been since 1963 when two ichthyologists, Rosen and Bailey, published a major revision of livebearing fishes.
