Advantages: Cute Cuddly Cheap

Disadvantages: None

Hamsters are really great... i won't waffle about how easy they are to keep/clean out, cos that's been done.

They are susceptible to illnesses, but that's ok for several reasons.
1)They're cheap... we're talking under a fiver for 2-3 years worth of pet (excluding food).
2)It gets your kids used to death... it's something that everyone has to face up to eventually, and the ease of which you can go out and buy another the same afternoon soon helps them get over it.

I've also noticed how differant their personalities are... but ours all seem to wake up at around 8pm and paw at the bars to go walkies in the ball...

They are cheap to buy, but a visit to the vet costs around £8 before any medicine. I once had to have one euthanised as it was in a really bad way. The problem was spotted a 8 p.m. on a Sunday, so the total bill could have been £60, what with Sunday night fees and all that. Fortunately, the vet decided to charge me the normal rate, which was just under £30.
