Advantages: erm...

Disadvantages: ruin your food, annoy you, wake you up with their annoying sound of wings beating

The housefly. One of the most annoying pests that I come across in my home. I have a conservatory, and i also live in a fairly rural area, so the whole fly problem is exaggerated. In summer, the problem is worse, and the conservatory is literally full of dead flies, its needs cleaning every single day in summer!

So, whats my advice in dealing with flies?

You can get these special sprays that you just spray onto the flies, or you could also get a fly swatter, but my approach to dealing with flies is in my opinion better, as it is a lot less effort, less chemically extreme, and easier to throw away the dead flies. You can get a product called "fly paper" which is basically just a scented tube of sticky paper (you can't smell it yourself, its a scent only flies can smell it) that you just hang from the ceiling of the room you want fly free. When flies smell the paper, the fly onto it, and immediately get stuck in the sticky substance, and eventually die. One roll of the stuff can literally kill hundreds of flies this way, and once your done, you just roll it up, and pop it in the bin. Easy!

If not, you could also get a special light that attracts the flies, then zaps them. I have not used one of these myself, but I have been told that they a quite effective, all you need to do is put a bin underneath it to collect all of the dead flies that it kills!

Summary: Get rid of them

ive personally never had any problems in it getting trapped in hair and the like, maybe i just use shorter lengths that you, or have a higher ceiling.

Well the electrical lights can be expensive and long term the bulbs can blow meaning a costly replacement.

L ike you I use the fly strips but you have to be careful where you hang them as if you touch them or passing hair gets stuck, removing that adhesive is more trouble than its worth.
