Advantages: Lovely, snuggly pets.

Disadvantages: Very heavy and eat a lot

A tail is, you would think, a fairly necessary part of a cat. Not so. Manx cats are odd, loveable and wonderful.

A Manx can not be bred with another Manx. So when we found our little Cocoa - a lovely black manx - she came with a sister, who we just couldn't leave behind, a black and white tailed cat named Jazz. They ended up completely different. Manx cats have a larger bone structure - they are in fact 'big boned'. This means heavy. Cocoa was never fat, but she was solid, and she loved her food.

Manx cats have balance problems, as they have no tail - Jazz would happily bound onto a couch and then up onto a tall bookshelf, where she would stare down at the world from on high, while Cocoa had problems climbing onto the piano stool, and much preferred to be carried everywhere.

Manx cats are snugglers - they love to be petted and cuddled. Cocoa was also a good hunter, so expect occasional 'gifts'. In the end we put a bell on her and that problem stopped.

They're wonderful, unusual looking, but gorgeous cats. Well worth at least a try. Cocoa was free from a friend - and she was one of the best tempered cats I have ever had.
