Advantages: Great cute and easy to care for
Disadvantages: likes digging exploring and sometimes escaping!
Rabbits are small furry mammals which are very common all over the world, and can be domesticated as pets. There are many species of rabbits: Lionheads, European, Pygmy, Swamp and so on.
Rabbits have long ears, two eyes to the side, a small nose, whiskers and teeth at the front for gnawing. They are round and furry, with claws on their paws for digging.
Rabbits live in burrows, and have small communities, usually living together. They dig the holes themselves in countryside areas, where there is little human activity, as they are shy and timid creatures.
Rabbits are herbivores but they eat a range of fruits and vegetables. The common conception of rabbits are that they eat carrots and love carrots, and it is true to an extent. They are sweet and helps train their teeth to become strong. Other foods include, flowers such as dandelions, grass... they also eat celeri to help clean the teeth, cabbage, lettuce and almost anything green! They are also fond of sweet fruits such as apples, pears and even strawberries.
Rabbits are extremely clean animals and form round circular dark faeces, which are excreted in clusters. They look like cocopops or chocoballs. They actually eat their own faeces to help digestion!
Rabbits usually live up to ten years and reproduce often.
I have had a rabbit as a pet for 4 years and it was the sweetest thing. They are quiet, but curious, and friendly. They love human company, and need love. They are great to stroke and care for, and eat a range of fruits and vegetables, and with strawberries, their noses turn pink!
Caring for a rabbit is very easy, and requires cleaning the cage about one a week, with sawdust, and hay!
Rabbits can also be lifted and cuddled.
Rabbits cost around £5-20 depending on where you get them, but be sure to look after them carefully! They are not just toys and have real feelings. I think I've seen my rabbit cry.
Summary: A really cute animal, very interesting.
