My husband and I have had smudge the house rabbit for about 8 months.

I had kept rabbits before as pets as a child but only as an outdoor pet. I wanted a pet. I do not like cats and a dog was out of the question. We live in a 1 bed room flat.

I know now that having rabbits out side was cruel in the winter. Smudge does not need a lot of work.

My husband and me both work. So he is at home all day by himself. He is contained in the kitchen by a little gate that we built. He has food ,water and toys to play with as well as mats to sit on as we have a tile floor.

We let him out in the living to run around in the evenings. The only thing to be ware of is NEVER leave them alone to run around in a room that has lots of things to chew. e.g electric wires. Also modem cables but is our fault and another story.

In the summer he has a run in the garden so that he can get the sun shine and get plently of grass. One thing to make sure is that they get plently of hay or grass as it gives them loose bowels movements. And do not over feed. The vet told us only to put an hand full down and not a bowl full. As they will only pick out the good bits. And do not feed them any more until it is all gone.

I would not be with out smudge but do feel guilty that he does not have a friend. But he not nasty to us so he must like us.

And one other point is that rabbits do not make good pets for children. As they do not like being picked up esp by the ears.
