I have kept rats for years and have never once been bitten. These little animals and great pets for children and adult alike.

Unfortunatly some people still see them as dirty and would never dream of having one as a pet.

Of course everyone is allowed an opinion but i disagree with anything negative of these animals.

Rats are clean animals that spent much of their time grooming each other and themselves, they use the same toilet area and cost little to feed.

They are much more affectionate than hamsters, gerbils and mice and will bond to their owners, looking for attention and treats. Many of my rats have been quite happy to sit on my shoulder for hours as i get on with housework and pc work. They just love being close to you.

There is a few requirments in keeping rats.

They need large rat proof cages. They are exellent escape artists and will nip out of the smallest of holes or gaps.

Plenty of toys, rats are intelligent rodents and need stimulisation.

Company, rats are happiest when in pairs or more (Of the same sex!!!) Try and by your rats as litter mates.

Fresh food, they love a treat of some apple, carrot and other tasty fruits and vegatables.

Plenty of handling. If you do not handle and play with your rats often, preferably every day they can become unsociable not to mention unhappy.

If your considering buying one for the first time remember to rat proof any rooms that they will be loose in, they will chew anything so take care to keep wires and valubles out of reach.
