I read a review about a dog comb earlier that I thought would be particularly good on my Samoyed, so I've been prompted to write a review on the breed. So, the Samoyed, where do I start? A member of the spitz family, the Samoyed is a working breed which is of a medium size. Typically males are around 21 to 23 inches in height (measured to the shoulder), weighing around 50lb. Females are slightly smaller, standing around 19-21 inches, and weighing in the region of 40lb. In 1996 there were 1212 Samoyeds registered in Great Britain. I absolutely love my samoyed. Nothing at all in my life gives me more pleasure and enjoyment then my 2 dogs and all the research I put into the breed before choosing samoyed has really paid off. For those of you who don't know, samoyed dogs from the Spitz family, this is characterised by their curly tail held over the top of their backs. They originate from Siberia where the nomadic tribes they were kept by used them for sled pulling, reindeer herding, warmth and comanionship. They had a special affinity with children who often slept with the dogs for warmth.
