Advantages: Fantastic, loyal, loving and great with children.

Disadvantages: Stubborn, dribbly and can be giddy.

I could talk about Staffordshire Bull Terriers all night long, I have one Jess, she's 5 now and the apple of my eye. She is so loving and loyal and a typical example of her breed. She is pure white with a brown patch over her eye and what looks like eyeliner! She loves nothing more than taking up the sofa having her belly rubbed or lazing around in the sun, although she doesn't like being told to get inside for fear of sunburn. She's stubborn (like her owner!) but she does party tricks for the odd treat and she loves laying on my sons bed watching tv with him. For anyone considering getting a Staffordshire Bull Terrier with children I would highly recommend. A lot of people seem to be scared of them but with the right training (especially on a lead) they are very loyal and do as they are told, bribery always helps! Staffordshire Bull Terrier pups are a hanful, very giddy and excitable but once you get past that stage they are great animals. A pleasure to have, although toys don't last 5 minutes with them!

Staffordshire Bull Terriers do bore easily, they hate been left on their own and love nothing more than to have new games to play, they do need training and they are reknown for having a dislike for all other animals, this can be overcome.

In America they still have the Pit Bull Terrier which is a cousin of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, both of which get bad press over here. I am a firm believer in the problem lies with the owner and not the dog.

If thinking about getting a Staffordshire Bull Terrier I would strongly recommend reading up on the breed first, these dogs have such strong jaws they can demolish anything in seconds. They are people pleasers though and enjoy making people happy.

People assume Staffordshire Bull Terriers are scary and vicious when in fact that couldn't be further from the truth, Staffordshire Bull's assume everyone is their friend and no matter what age they will still jump up for that cuddle.

Short and stocky a Stafford's look can be deceiving, these beauties can jump well over 6ft and need to be safely enclosed in the garden at all times.

Summary: For the perfect four legged companion, go for a staffie.
