Advantages: loving, nice nature
Disadvantages: stubborn, diggers
The Cairn Terrier is a belting little dog. A book Ive got says that once youve had a cairn terrier in your home for a year you will always have one, and I would agree with it.
They originally descended from the same stock as Westies and Scotties, they are about 12 inches in height, and can be any colour really apart from white. I have seen them described as everyones image of just "dog", and this is true. They are very attractive little dogs (I am biased) with a big personality.
They are very very loving dogs, they just want to be with people, and will try their best to please you. They are happy with whatever you can provide, whether it be going on huge walks, or not being able to get out of a flat much and playing ball instead. They are intelligent little dogs - but they are stubborn, be warned!
They are good little house dogs, and will bark to protect their property, but they are not yappy little dogs either. They do love digging, digging for badgers, foxes, rats etc being what they were originally bred for. They can be trained not to dig though.
I wouldnt have anything other than a Cairn, but I will readily admit that I am biased!
