Advantages: great pets sooo rewarding

hi there i own a herman's tortoise along with few other reptiles. these animals are fantastic creatures to own, character of my herman named allan is amsing he acts like he is own man stomping about, scowling at us when we wake him up or even eating the fake plants and so we prepare is food and he just walks through it lol. Yes with these amusing and fasinating little creatures does come big responsibility and time and effort. These little wonders cost from 100 plus and that without the set up with can come well over 250 to make sure got required equipment to make a very happy home for a happy tortoise.

equipment= they require a tortoise table for housing people say vivarium's but it is not enough ventilation and can cause respiratory infections, 1 basking light 60 watt i use but depends on size of you housing, uv tube of 5.0 and uv controller to operate the tube, water bowl, veg bowl, substrate like hemp hay for bedding, decor to stimulate your tortoise.

care- they need basking light to help them regulate there temprature as they cold blooded this helps them to move and be active. This needs to be at 85 to 95f with rest tank at 75- 80f bit cooler so he can go cool down if he wants to. uv tube then is needed to help them digest there food and help digest vitamins and minerals from there diet, uv tube stimulate sunlight.need fresh supply of water everyday to bath and drink, they eat fresh greens , weeds and fruit moderately and this then needs to be supplemented with calcium to help there bones grow nice and strong. These tortoises need to hibernate every year to help recooperate from the year.

so as you can see these can be alot of work but don't be put off it will come natural with routine and before long you be reaping the rewards of owning something bit different to most.

Summary: if you got time and effort i recommend highly as these can be mans best friend
