As the popularity of large game hunting began to decline, Weimaraners were used for hunting smaller animals, like fowl, rabbits, and foxes. Rather than having a specific purpose such as pointing or flushing, the Weimaraner is an all purpose dog. The Weimaraner is loyal and loving to his family, an incredible hunter, and a fearless guardian of his family and territory. The name comes from the Grand Duke of Weimar, Charles August, whose court enjoyed hunting.

To be honest she gave us real grilling asking loads of questions, before she told us that she thought us suitable to have a pup! To cut a long story short Milo is now nearly 2 years old and yes he is as mad as a box of frogs but he has a heart of gold. He is loving, obediant and a joy to own. We take him hill walking with us and he loves his walks. Like the...more

The Grey Ghost, as the Weim is affectionally known. A truly beautiful looking dog that is a joy to behold. We had never owned a dog before and my wife fell for this breed as soon as she saw one. We contacted several breeders and expressed an interest and enquired about puppy availability. As has been stated we were told that it is not a suitable breed for a first time owner but after filling in several questionnaires sent by several breeders we were invited to visit a breeder in Harrogate who had a bitch expecting pups. We have owned our first dog and weim for almost 2 years and love him to bits. We did our research enormously for months to ensure he was the right dog for us but he is fantastic fun and a great addition to the family. Milo is a purebred dog with an amzing temperament, he is as soft as a brush, great with our 2 children and never barks at other dogs. He is gentla and will let the kids play with him for hours, he will let them do anything to him and we wouldnt be without him On the negative side, yes he is a big dog and needs a lot of exercise, he is very sociable and will follow you from room to room, he doesn't like being on his own as he ...

Why a Weimaraner? Sometimes I wonder that when Lucy has dug herself into a rabbit hole and I have to drag her out by her back legs, avoiding her snapping teeth... Most people are struck by the beauty of these dogs. The silver ghost coat, their excellent conformation and intelligent yellow or blue eyes can be really striking. Oh, and, of course, a recent advertisement for vodka which had a singing weimaraner playing the piano. But these dogs aren't for the inexperienced! Although affectionate and friendly, Weimaraners are stubborn if they want to be, selectively deaf, can be fussy eaters, and - potentially a big problem - excellent vermin ...
