Does what it's meant to - but at a price

This lens hood does an extremey effective job of preventing lens flare in most situations. Even almost straight into the sun shots are handled well by the combination of this and the Canon 70-300mm IS USM lens, due to this lenses' coatings.

Build quality is good and the hood fits backwards onto the lens to protect the lens and enable storage of the hood. It does increase the diameter of the lens pretty significantly, so those with tight lens cases may struggle. Fitted, the hood makes fitting filters or lens caps difficult, but the hood unclips very quickly.

The hood has a lot of very good points. However, mis is expensive for what is effectively a plastic moulding with some paint. A number of 3rd party versions are not built as well, so don't provide the quality the pros may look for. However, these 3rd party hods may be worth considering if you're looking rfor a cheap hood for this lens.
