Advantages: They work well and they cost little.
Disadvantages: None really.
These days everyone has one gadget or another with an LCD screen, be it a mobile phone, an MP4 player or a digital camera. You will of course find that through time unless you protect the screen on whichever of these gadgets you have, the LCD screen will become marked and scratched and not only look unseemly but also become more difficult to view.
You can now buy screen protectors from various places which are designed to stick onto the LCD screen and stop it becoming damaged whilst not reducing your ability to view it. Jessop's camera stores do their own version of these, simply called Jessop's LCD screen protectors; these work well and are inexpensive to buy.
A pack of three of these screen protectors costs £5.39 and each of the protective films measures 80 X 100 mm, they come on a hard card backing and are very easy to cut to size. You simply measure the exact measurements of the screen you wish to apply them to and mark the card side of the protector then cut to size, once cut you then remove the card backing and stick the protector on.
There is a screen wipe provided in the pack and you should always make sure you use this to give the screen a good clean before fitting otherwise you might find the tiniest speck of dust or even just a sticky mark will leave an irremovable air bubble on the protector once fitted.
When fitting you should place one end of the protector in place then slowly smooth the rest of it into place, you also get a stiff piece of card which is designed for you to run along the protective film when fitting to smooth out any annoying air bubbles. You might find you need a couple of attempts to get it on smoothly and without bubbles but it is worth the effort in the long run.
I always use these on my DSLR camera and on my touch screen mobile phone and they do not impair my view of the screen in any way and they do a good job of not only keeping the screen clean but also of protecting it from scratches or grazing and therefore I just have to change my protective film once in a while and I always have a perfect screen to view.
Keeping your screen clean and scratch free also benefits you if you decide to sell the gadget on further down the line, as a mobile phone or camera with a badly scratched LCD screen will be hard to sell on and some of these gadgets in good condition can still sell for good money as second hand.
I would strongly urge everyone to protect their LCD screens and these Jessop's screen protectors are as good and as inexpensive way of doing so as any.
Thanks for reading.

- 15/08/09 Always struggled with these not to start lifting in the corners. |

- 11/08/09 Although my new Nikon D90, which you kindly rated and commented on, has a clip-on screen protector, given Nikon's prices, it might be worth my while buying these to 'protect the protector' before I get it scratched. |
