Introduction

Sometimes these hoods are required fro certain photography types - such as outdoor photography, or even photojournalism. Its main job is to stop light coming in from the side and wash out the picture. It can also add a little protection to your lens; if you drop the camera it's the hood that will get damaged not the glass lens (hopefully!) it also stops the rain from hitting the lens, to a certain level.



The Hood

This fits my 50mm Nikon lenses, and is manufactured from rubber. I have used this with a filter on the front too and it will fit just as perfectly.

This comes in colour black and has raised lettering on the side saying "Nikon HR-2"

I have heard that come people have problems with hoods becoming adhered to the lens in certain weather conditions (such as hot weather) due to the rubber material it is manufactured from. I have not personally has this problem with this hood.

It is the first time I have ever used an all rubber lens hood, all my past hoods have been manufactured from plastic. The shape of the hood has not been affected by squashing, or prolonged use. I usually just leave the hood on the camera lens when stored in my camera bag - but there have been times where I have simply thrown the hood in the side pocket when it was not required (indoor photography) and there were not problems with the shape.

The hood does exactly what its ment to; block unwanted light. Filters are not a problem for this hood. As it's made from rubber it offers a certain amount of shock protection.

An excellent hood which you can collapse into your camera bag.

Summary: Excellent design, no problem for filter use.
