ROR Optics Cleaner
Advantages: very effective cleaner, easy to use
At the camera shop I work in we sell some camera cleaning equipment, there are a couple of lens cleaning fluids we sell - ROR is the main one and quite frankly the best.
ROR stands for Residual Oil Remover and it's intended to remove oily marks from glass optics such as camera lenses, filters and reading glasses etc. Although there are other glass cleaners on the market which come in bigger quantities for a lower price, they can damage the coatings put on certain glass optics - this particular cleaner is safe for such purposes and will remove marks without damaging the glass or any coatings on it.
This particular ROR comes in a pump bottle containing 20 fluid oz - the stock photo is an older one and the current bottle has a white pump top. ROR is printed in big letters on the side and there is smaller text with a list of products it's suitable to use on etc. The pump is easy to use and you don't need to exert much pressure to get a spray out of it - this comes out in a fine mist and the nozzle doesn't clog up with use. You can also purchase ROR in a smaller dropper bottle.
Only a small amount of fluid is needed to clean a bit of glass (a single small pump for the glass of a lens) so the bottle lasts a long time. When you wipe the fluid across the surface with an appropriate cloth it quickly and easily removes any oily marks with little pressure applied and as long as you haven't over saturated the glass, it dries off very quickly to leave a streak free finish.
I'd never heard of ROR before I started working in a camera shop, even though I have a degree in photography, but since I've bought a bottle I haven't looked back. While being careful with your equipment should usually prevent bad marks on glass, ultimately you'll get some oily smudges such as when you accidentally touch the front element with your fingers. I've also found that ROR is excellent to use for removing other marks such as dust particles - using this has helped make my lenses look like new again as it leaves the glass looking perfectly clear and streak free.
Price wise this can be purchased for around £8 per bottle, which may seem like quite alot for the amount you get - however as you only need to use a very small amount each time, it lasts for ages and is very effective so it's definately worth the price it commands.
Over all I highly recommend this product for any photographers, cinematographers or people with glass items that are prone to oily marks.
Summary: a great cleaner for glass optics
