If I had to pick my favourite fruit, at the moment I would have to say the apple. Summer is supposed to be a time for strawberries, but I still stick to the apple. It is so delicious and, well, fruity! I dont really mind what apples I go for, as long as it is tasty, though I do generally try to get granny smith apples.
Brand: Granny Smith
Packaging: loose
Appearance: fresh green
Taste: sour, refreshing
Texture: crunchy, juicy
Price: 25p
Availability: Tesco stores, supermarkets
Now you know the basics, lets look further. I just want to point out that although the title says 'tesco', you can in fact buy Granny Smith apples in the majority of places you will look, as it is one of the most well known brand of apple. The apples can come in a pack, or can come loose. I tend to buy them loose as I cannot myself go through a pack of six or eight before they expire. Though I do not exactly enjoy the 'loose' part, as you never know who has been touching them. Nonetheless you simply pop an apple into a little plastic bag and away you go.
The apple itself looks delicious. Never have I eaten a dull granny smith! They are always a fresh green colour, which is especially perfect during the summer months of bright attractive colours. Taking a bite, your teeth crunch their way through the slightly tough green skin layer and into the crunchy apple centre. I find it has quite a sour taste to it, but not one that makes you want to stop eating there and then. It's quite addictive and tingles the taste buds (but is hell if you have cuts on your lips!). It's certainly a delicious flavour and goes well with the texture - whats not to like?
A single apple can cost you around 25p from Tesco. This is quite cheap, though I did just do a comparison and found that they are 10p cheaper at Asda. However by the time you spend petrol money, bus fares or energy used to walk over to an asda if it is further away, you really are not saving much! Fruit nowadays can be quite expensive so I would say that 25p to have ahealthy intake for a snack and gain one of your 'five a day' portions of fruit and veg, this is an idea price!
I love Granny Smith apples and always try to eat them when possible. If you are casually browsing down the fruit aisle in tesco, or any other stores that stock Granny Smiths, dont by pass - pick one up and add it to the shopping. Theyre gorgeous!
