Advantages: Long flowering, cuttings root in four to six weeks

Disadvantages: goes staggly after two or three years

Pinks are pretty and yet free flowering plants and have the most wonderful smell.
These delightful flowers are members of the
dianthus family,which includes carnations,
and sweet williams. The old fashioned pinks are the ones that have longbeen grown in cottage gardens. They are very hardy and ideal for herbaceous borders, depending on the variety plants can grow between eight
and sixteen inches high. They come in a wide
range of colours and petal designs. The old fashined ones only flower once a year, but the modern pinks flower throughout the summer
and into the autumn. There are also dwarfforms ideal for rockeries. They need a sunny position and well drained soil.

I'd really have liked more info - eg how easy are they to grow, what do you need to be aware of etc etc...
I haven't had much success with pinks, so it would have been nice to have some tips :)
