Advantages: Tasty and easy to grow

Disadvantages: The smell if you don't like onions

Chives are very easy to grow. You can sow the seeds inside, or in greenhouse at any time of year. I find that sowing them in a plastic propagator is the best method. Keep them in it until they are big enough to transplant into individual pots. Once there is no more danger of frost you can plant them outside or leave them in pots.

Chives have an onion like smell and they taste like a very mild onion. They resemble the stalks of spring onions and you just cut the green leaves and chop them to use. Tasty in salads, with cheese or wherever you would use onions. (Especially good if you are one of those people who finds onions too strong.)

Well worth growing as they need very little attention.
