Advantages: Delicious

Disadvantages: Not as easy to grow as chives

I love coriander in my food - I especially love it in Thai curry or salads so I thought it would be a good idea to grow my own. I thought it would save money on buying it in packs.

It didn't work. I bought a small plant from Asda for 50p - this may have been my mistake but I bought chives for the same price and they're still going strong!

It was good while it lasted and my cooking was much improved for it. I was careful not to use too much however because I didn't want to kill the poor thing. I looked after it lovingly for less than a week before it was past saving. I thought I was being very careful to water it enough but not too much and generally keep it happy but it clearly disagreed.

It started wilting and then it went a bit brown. I carried on trying to revive it and stuck to recipes containing chives instead of coriander but my efforts were wasted. It is no more.

I was most upset and asked my father if I could have some from his garden knowing that he grows just about everything I was sure that he'd be willing to share. He said he'd tried it once and it wouldn't grow so I'm glad I'm not the only one but that leaves me having to buy it in packs from the supermarket.

I still love coriander as an ingredient in all sorts of food but I am trying to acquire a taste for chives as I've had them for a while now and they are looking as healthy as ever.

I feel it would be unfair to give too low a rating as the stuff is delicious and I may have been doing something wrong!

Summary: Mine died but worth trying harder for the delicious taste

Coriander is so versatile, like you, I am sure I did something wrong with my plant but I shall follow Mary's advice too!
