What a rubbish name for a pretty plant
Author Name: superness11
Advantages: beautiful flowers
Disadvantages: expensive and slow growth
Dogwood is beautiful and smells wonderful. It has a woody floral scent to it and it is often found in perfumes. It is a really hardy plant and blooms every May-June with captivating little white flowers. The most common dogwood flower has four signature petals and a burst of yellow stamens in the middle of the flower. The petals are in the brightest of whites. A mature plant can also grow big red berries once the flowers have bloomed, however my dogwood plant has not ever done this. Dogwood looks like a small tree with lots of branches. In the summer is it rich in bright green foliage but the real beauty are the flowers in the spring. The Autumn changes the leaves to a dusty red and orange colour which is also very pretty.
==Price and availability==
Dogwood is easy to care for and plants can be bought from the garden centre for £20.00-£70.00 or more depending on how mature it is. A plant that sits in a 4 LT pot will cost around £30.00. They can grow quite large but growth is slow and steady. Dogwood likes to be out in full sun. I have mine against my fence in order to protect it from the wind. When you first plant the dogwood make sure you mix some leafmould into the soil.
As a shallow rooted plant it is best to water it throughout the summer and during dry spells.
You will need to prune the plant in order to get rid of old branches and promote growth. This should be done in late winter or early spring to avoid damaging the plant.
Dogwood is a lovely plant that will last for years and will become a signature token in the garden. I bought my dogwood in a 4LT pot for £30.00 and so far it has grown around 5 cm all over. It is a really easy to care for addition to the garden and very beautiful not to mention the lovely scent it gives off.
Summary: A pretty shrub
