Honeysuckle Lonicera Woodbine is its old name Honey suckle is a climbing deciduous shrub Honeysuckle receives its common name from an old habit of sucking the sweet nectar from the end of the flowers. Honey suckle flowers given to you are a sign of affection. There are about 180 species of honeysuckle. This climber is a favourite of many a garden, rambling over arches climbing along walls smelling sweetly and attracting the bees. Honeysuckle has oval 5-10 cm long green leaves opposite each other. The bell shaped flowers can be pink, red, white or yellow. In the autumn they produce red or black berries, which are poisonous You can buy them at garden centres but they are fairly easy to take successful cuttings from. Take a small cutting dab some rooting hormone on the end (not always necessary) place in a peat and sand mix and keep watered. Early autumn is a good time to take cuttings. They like a sunny position with well-drained soil on a warm summer evening will have a wonderful fragrance Both the "English" White Admiral and the "southern" white admiral lay their eggs on the leaves and the caterpillars eat the leaves. They have yet to do so on my honeysuckle. Thank you for reading ,Happy gardening, Mary
