Advantages: Delicious summery fruit, ripe as soon as you buy them
Disadvantages: ----------
I like kiwi fruits but find they are often too hard when I buy them and the ruddy things take so long to soften that by the time they have I find I have to put them in the compost bin as they've gone rotten! I just can't seem to win with this peculiar little fruit.
Recently though I noticed Tesco are now selling a pack of four kiwi fruits which are named 'Perfectly Ripe', despite the fact that they are rather more expensive than my usual kiwis at £1.99 I decided to buy a pack.
The kiwi fruits are a nice size and feel much more ripe and tender than other fruits I have bought recently, from Tesco or elsewhere. They feel heavy and full of juice in my hand, which is surely how you can judge a good kiwi fruit without tasting it.
I don't know how you eat your kiwi fruit, but personally I chop the top off it and use an ancient serrated grapefruit spoon to scoop out the flesh in much the way I'd eat a boiled egg.
I was impressed as soon as I cut the top off the fruit as juice oozed out of the brilliant green flesh, the pips looked perfect and were plentiful without the fruit being over run by them as sometimes happens when I buy cheaper kiwi fruits.
The flesh itself is tender and I must agree with Tesco, they really are perfectly ripe. The kiwi fruits have the delicious natural sweetness that these fruits are known for and they taste absolutely delicious. I'm thrilled that at long last I have found a kiwi fruit that I can rely on, in fact just an hour ago I ordered more from Tesco Online and they are coming on Thursday.
I am aware I am paying over the odds on these fruits, but I usually buy a punnet of six smaller kiwis for £1.29 and at least four of these will usually be wasted. So thinking about it like this I am saving money as I can guarantee myself that all four of these will be eaten so there is zero waste.
Summary: Definitely worth the extra money in my opinion.
