Crowned Review Marjoram - A pleasure to see and to eat (1866 words)
by - written on 18/06/07 (Very useful, 75 readings)
Rating:

Introduction ************** Marjoram is one of those herbs I always have lurking at the back of my cupboard for tossing into a recipe to give it a bit more flavour. It’s very commonly used in Italian recipes, and also a lot of French cookery, but it’s really very versatile and can be used to add taste to a wide variety of foods, and works especially well in meat dishes. Marjoram’s Plant Family ************************** Marjoram (Origanum majorana) is part of the Lamiaceae group of plants, which also includes lavender, Basil, Rosemary, and Mint, to name but a few. Marjoram is also known as Oregano ***The Plant*** The herb originally comes from the Mediterranean regions, but a native species can be found all over the world, but known under a different name. There is a story behind Marjoram not a lot of people may know ...  Read the complete review

Marvellous marjoram oregano Marjoram grows freely in my garden. Too freely sometimes I am often pulling up stray seedlings everywhere I usually pot them up and give them away. Origanum has many different species, Origanum marjorana (sweet marjoram) Origanum onites (pot marjoram) Oreganum vulgare (oregano) Oreganum dictamus (hop marjoram) I think I must have at least two of these in my garden. I have a small herb garden and they grow officially there but I have escapes in the flower borders and my wild meadow (lawn) Marjoram has small white or pale pink flowers. Grows to the height of up to 2 foot 60 cms depending on the species. Oreganum ...  Read the complete review
