Advantages: cures many things
Disadvantages: only flower in summer and autumn
I have decided to be daring and write an opinion about something completely different, something I know absolutely nothing about. I know this may make me sound crazy but I wanted to write about something different to be original. I asked my fiancé to pick a topic. “Mint” he said. I thought he was having a laugh but he was serious so my research began. I am not going to write about how many different varieties I could find of Polo and Trebor mints. I am going to write a whole opinion on the herb named mint. Only two other people have written opinions on this topic before and both haven’t gone into too much detail. I have decided to change this. Please don’t run away now, I will try making it as interesting as possible. Off I went to search the net. I was quite disappointed with what I come up with. Not a lot I am afraid. I decided to venture into the unknown and open up some books. Are you ready for this? Here I go, There are three different types of mint plants. These are Mentha Spicata, Mentha Piperita and Mentha Aquatica. Straight away this got me thinking, maybe this is where the word menthol comes from. Mentha Spicata (Spearmint) This type of mint is also known as Garden or Spearmint. It is one of the most popular herbs grown in gardens. It will grow up to around three feet. It has purple flowers that grow in long spikes. #Where to find it# This type of plant is mainly cultivated in herb gardens, but is found wild in scattered places. It originated from the Mediterranean. #Flowering time# Midsummer #Medical uses# Spearmint has traditionally been used internally for indigestion, colic, gas, hiccups, and feverish childhood illnesses. Applied to the forehead or temples, it eases pain in the head. People also use it so wash the heads of children to help sores and scabs. Taken in wine it is said to help women in childbeari
ng. It is good for kidney stones and cures sore mouths and gums. It is also good for bad breath, which is why many shops sell so many of the sweet variety. Menthal Piperita (Peppermint) This plant is also known as peppermint. The leaves on this plant are broader and shorter than Spearmint, but the flowers are longer. #Where to find it# You can find this plant in gardens and in moist places, such as the banks of rivers. #Flowering time# Mid to late summer #Medical uses# Peppermint has many effects the same, as Spearmint such as it is useful in complaints of the stomach. It helps with wind and vomiting, for which there a few remedies of greater effect. It removes nausea. Peppermint tea is good used early in colds or fevers. The tea is also helpful in treating insomnia, anxiety and dizziness. Menthol Aquatica (Wild mints) This is also known as wild mint or water mint. This is the commonest of the wild mint plants. It has hairy stalks, large leaves and purple flowers growing in round spikes. It is a smaller plant than the Garden mint. #Where to find it# You can find this plant on riverbanks, marshes and other wet places. #Flowering time# Midsummer to mid autumn #Medical uses# This kind of mint expels wind out of the stomach and opens obstructions of the womb. The distilled water of the herb is carminative and relieves colic and other disorders of the bowels, instantaneously. It also stimulates the menstrual flow. If this water is taken hot, the infusion induces perspiration and is valuable in fevers and inflammatory conditions. #Summary# Mint is a herb that is useful in all disorders of the stomach, including weakness, loss of appetite, pain and vomiting. All mints are astringent and great strengtheners of the stomach. I have found out a great by doing this research and it has made me realise the
re is more to mint than the smell. I hope I have educated you all without sending you to sleep. Another thing I found out about mint is that it is a herb of Venus. This does not really mean anything to me as I am not into astrology but I thought I would add it encase anyone was. I have to say I have never used this herb as a remedy. i didn't even know you could use it for all these things until five minutes ago. I have no personal experiences of using this product so I would be grateful if you leave a comment and leave your experiences. Does it work? That's what we all want to know. Thanks for reading this exciting opinion, Grimsbygal
