Advantages: nice and very large and pretty tree with nice horizontal branches

Disadvantages: can be very sharp and puts seeds everywhere making one turn into 1000

in my opinion the monkey puzzle tree is my fave tree in the uk because i think it looks really exotic and nice and they can grow to over 70ft which i think is incredible! also with its hugh spikes it looks really nice but i would be very careful because those spikes are razor sharp and i you poke one you will know about it because i one felt one to see how sharp it was...(it hurt alot) i personally would not have one in my garden because they put sharp spikes everywhere and i will have loads of them because of the seeds but when i see them i think the are very nice because you dont see many i think i have only seen about 10-20 in the uk. i think this has got to be the most wierd tree in britain with horizontal branches and deadly spikes but nevertheless it has got to be one of the most prettyest and i feel sorry for those who have one on thier garden because it would make a huge mess.

Summary: a nice tree with beautiful branches but i would not like one on my garden

They originate from South America (Chile/Argentina) what we see in the UK is a cultivated version of the wild form. My Gran always told us that they were called Monkey Puzzle trees because they were the only tree that monkeys couldn't climb and they would sit at the bottom of them presumably looking puzzled. Mick
