Orchids are beautiful flowers a little bit special. they are an aincient flower having a long history .
These flowers are often given to those we love There are several species that are grown as a house or garden plant. But the real delight, are the wild orchids and about now is a good time to go to see wild orchids in England They are spring flowering do not leave it much later than now or the best will be over.
There are 46 Orchids thought to grow wild in England and Ireland. Some are very rare and are choosy about the areas and conditions they grow in.

Orchids do have flowers that are often thought to look like something else and are called after that. The bee orchid looks like a bumble bee the ladies slipper orchid like a ladies slipper, the man orchid look at the flower ad you can see its head arms and legs, there is an orchid called the naked man orchid I have seen this on a Crete. This flower is like the man orchid but has a willy too, a small petal between its leg petals

Never ever pick a wild orchid some are protected species. Some like the Like the Ladys slipper and Lizard orchid are very rare.
I remember as a child the delight of finding a bee orchid and seeing the early purple orchids. Orchid spotting and study can be a fascinating hobby.

Orchidaceae are a hobby of some specialist gardeners some orchids harder to grow than others orchids are monocotyledons and are one of the largest families of flowers with over 25,000 species. What then unites these diverse plants into the family called the Orchidaceae? One of the things that distinguish an orchid is that they have protocorms, the only plant family to have these. A protocorm is the structure formed after the germination of the seed and before the development of the seedling plant.
Orchids do have a lovely scent some will perfume your rooms significantly. Orchids like sunlight and not over watering.

You can buy Orchids suitable for your house from many garden centres they do make a super present, being a bit more special than some other flowers.
