We have 4 strawberry tubs in our garden, the tubs cost me £20 each, are cylindrical, about 4 foot tall and have large holes cut in them for you to plant your strawberry plants. These pots are ideal as it stops pests eating your plants as you can put them on a table out of reach at night and can put them in direct sunlight during the day. I keep my tubs in the greenhouse during the winter but put them outside in the sun from the end of may untill mid september. You can buy strawberry plants relatively cheap to get you started, about £2 a plant from most garden centers and after that you will not have to buy any more plants. Although ... STRAWBERRY FOLK LAW "Doubtless God could have made a better berry, but doubtless God never did." (Dr. William Butler, 17th Century English Writer) Dr. Butler was referring to the strawberry. Strawberries are the best of the berries. The delicate heart-shaped berry has always connoted purity, passion and healing. It has been used in stories, literature and paintings through the ages. In Othello, Shakespeare decorated Desdemonda's handkerchief with symbolic strawberries. Madame Tallien, a prominent figure at the court of the Emperor Napoleon, was famous for bathing in the juice of fresh strawberries. She used 22 pounds per basin, ... Read the complete review

Gardening never used to interest me at all, but as I am getting older, I find myself with an uncontrollable urge to grow things. Few things match the pleasure of walking out into the garden and picking your own produce that you have created, and when you match this with one of the tastiest fruits around, the pleasure is immeasurable! The tale of my plants started three years ago. We have a south facing long, narrow garden, and up until a few years ago it was mainly lawn for the sake of the children. My initial intention was to grow strawberries in hanging baskets; firstly so that we could keep as much grass as possible free for football, paddling ... Read the complete review

For me, Strawberries and summer go together. I think they are by far the loveliest of all the summer fruits and I know I am not alone in my appreciation of these delicious heart shaped berries! Strawberries have been around since the ice age. The Romans cultivated Strawberries, believing that they had healing properties and could help cure depression, infections and fevers. During medieval times the strawberry was used as a symbol of purity, love and passion, no doubt due to its heart shape. Stonemasons of the time often carved strawberry designs in churches and these can still be seen to-day. Strawberry soup was sometimes served to a newly married couple as part of the ... Now, if I'd written this review a couple of weeks ago I would have said how wonderful these strawberries were as the very first punnet I bought were of excellent quality and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Unfortunately this has been proved to be a lucky fluke as I have since bought four punnets and discovered that the quality of the fruit varies widely from purchase to purchase, and I have never since had such a good selection of strawberries as the first lot. These are certainly the cheapest way of buying edible strawberries, they're not the best quality that you're likely to encounter and some of them are rather hard BUT they only cost between £1 and ...
