Advantages: Taste great, fresh, easy to grow, sproats off, takes up a little room

Disadvantages: Slugs and other bugs will eat them!

I love strawberries but I do find that I pay a lot of money for them in the supermarket to find that within 24 hours the whole lot are mouldy! So last summer I was at focus when I spotted strawberry plants £5 for five big plants now I spend £3 on two small punnets so this seems reasonable.

I popped home and planted them in some garden soil in my daughter's old sandpit within a few weeks some nice juicy strawberries appeared which were rapidly gobbled up by the slugs so I popped a net over the top and got some slug replant. ( I know now there are better ways to get rid of slugs!)

The strawberries were very easy to grow but they needed protecting from bugs. My strawberry plants sprouted off some feeders which could the be replanted so from the 5 strawberry plants I bought I have a nice lot of over 15 strawberry plants growing ready for this summer. Strawberry plants will grow repeatedly year after year so they are a good investment. I am a rubbish gardener but I can cope with strawberries and can even grow then okay.

Strawberries are expensive to buy and go off very quickly so planting your own is a great idea they are quite low maintained and they do not take up much room. Strawberries need to be washed before eaten I enjoy mine served with fresh cream and a sprinkle of sugar! I would recommend growing strawberries they are cheap easy and very tasty!

Summary: Cheap easy and tasty strawberries!

I read somewhere to grow them in hanging baskets so I am going to try that.
