Sweet William, ahhhhhhhhhhh no not the sweet little boy William that I teach , but the flower I grow in my garden.
Sweet William is a biennial (seeds sown this year will flower next) I love sweet Williams they are a flowers that holds childhood memories of the garden I grew up in. my dad nearly always had these in the front garden

Sweet Williams are pretty they grow to heights between 4 and 14 inches depending on variety and soil conditions.
Sweet William flowers late spring early summer. The flowers are displayed in a flat round cluster at the top of the plant. The colours are in the red spectrum and also a white.

As the name suggests sweet William smell sweet the flower is attractive to butterflies and moths bees and me.

Seeds can be sown in the spring outside after the first frosts. I am going to start some seed at the end of the week I shall sow a tray and put it in the conservatory. The seeds just need to be sown on soil with a light covering of soil over them and kept watered.
The seeds take 7-14 days to germinate. And about 10 –12 weeks before you can plant them into flowering position. I shall place mine in the front garden. They need to be spaced 6-8 inches apart in a sunny well-drained position.

After they have flowered they produce many seeds and sometimes will self set you can save the seed for next year I haven’t done, but I have memories of me as a young child sitting with a tray of dead sweet William heads shaking all the seeds out and putting them in brown paper bags for my dad. Each flower makes a pod and lots of little black seeds fall out easily.
Seeds can be bought readily from seeds merchants or garden centres. They are usually fairly cheap around a £1-£2 for a packet containing a lot of seeds the posh species seeds contain less seeds per packet

I was looking at flower names and meanings. Sweet William /Dianthus Ba

Oh yes just a post script went on march in London march was great took us 4 1/2 –5 hours walking slowly to get to Hyde park, missed all the speeches but achieved my aim to stand up and be counted as one who does not think war/death and fighting is the answer. Peace and love to you all

Excellent op, as usual.

And yes, I had a great day yesterday. It is great to know that many people share our view that this war is wrong. Not sure what good it has done, but at least I feel a lot better for showing I give a sh*t.
