Taylor amaryllis gift packs can be a lovely treat but there are things to look out for.
The pack consists of dormant bulb ready to plant out, these usually also come with a pot and some potting compound but packs can vary.
upon receiving the pack you plant up the bulb and watch it grow until after a couple of months it flowers.
the flowers traditionally come in red or white and tend to come out in spring time which is why you see a lot of these as Christmas gifts.
the bulbs can be kept after flowering but rarely seem to come back to more than just leaves the next year as they need very particular care.
These are a great gift if you get a good one as there simple but the joy of watching them grow is a real pleasure for plant lovers however it is easy to get a dud bulb.
If the store has kept the boxes too damp or cold or the opposite and too hot the bulbs can rot and or dry out. causing them to be useless when you open the box, always have a look before buying at the state of the bulb
Also plant out as soon as possible the longer it is packed the weaker the bulb gets and feed it well as it grows for the bigger flowers
Also check carefully what you get there are many of these some come with a nice ceramic pot some compost some just a plastic pot.
A lovely present for any keen gardener, this Amaryllis kit contains a pot, bulb and compost / Assorted bulb variety
