The mighty blight (Tomatoes)

If you grow tomatoes outside, they can be very vulnerable to blight at this time of year. This is a devastating disease that may result in you having almost no edible crop at all. It begins with some small brown blotches on a few leaves, or maybe as a brown edge on some. You really need to inspect your plants carefully and pick off any leaves showing the slightest signs of blight. Then spray the plants with a copper-based fungicide, similar to the Bordeaux mixture that is used to spray vines. This is available in sachets as a powder, or (more conveniently) as a concentrated liquid. The treatment needs to be repeated every two weeks or so, and should prevent the disease from becoming too serious even if it does not entirely prevent it. Good luck! Summary: |
