Advantages: Lovely ample sweet fruit, easy for any idiot to grow
Disadvantages: Too few seeds
PRODUCT.... SUTTONS TOMATO F' TUMBLER WHAT THE PACKET SAYS...... Perfect for baskets and tubs, delicious small glossy fruit, easy to grow for patio or garden, colourful container grown with flowers,no need for stopping or pinching. MY STORY..... Myself my husband and our children moved home last year .We now have a large garden and a greenhouse(yipeeeeeee), and I really wanted to show Wales and the whole of the world what I could do with my little patch of green. Off I went to B&Q coming back home with innumerable packets of seeds, pots, compost, etc.Actually you name it I probably had it! These tomato seeds stick in my mind. They cost me £1.95 and I expected to open the packet and find at least 20 if not 30 seeds. To my sheer amazement there were ...6 SEEDS IN THE PACKET..YES ONLY 6!!!I couldn't believe it and felt totally dismayed. My idea of being the "Percy Thrower" of the South Wellian coast line was slowly fading . I carefully took them out of the packet down in my much loved and cherished greenhouse, careful not to sneeze or breath too much over them , so small and fragile the seeds seemed and hard to handle. I thought(you will have to excuse me here ,I can get a bit daft family and friends are used to my daft ways ,it gets me through life :)!!), that if I gave the 6 seeds names that they may like it and all decide to grow for me.I only expected one or two to germinate anyways due to my lack of experience and I thought that this may help. So they were named by the children my husband and myself....Bernard(the children were going through a strange phase of calling various animal, vegetable and mineral things this name don't ask me why),Wendy,Geoff,Mr Jones,Idris, and Weedy. Miraculously all the seeds grew, wether it was the stern warning they had about not doing their best or the happiness of having names I do not know
but they grew ALL six of them.I still felt narked though,I mean how could you get many tomatoes off just 6 plants? I transplanted 4 on into patio containers and 2 on into hanging baskets (one of which was Bernard) and they became lovely healthy looking plants with many tumbling trusses.Like it said on the Suttons packet no stopping or pinching was required all I had to do was water them and talk to them ,I was a little guilty of not giving then tomato feed but it didn't seem to affect then at all. The harvest details were correct too,Suttons said July ,August and September and so it has been.I have been very pleasantly surprised with the yeild too, lovely little juicy sweet fruit that the kids love also. I kept a record due to my disgruntlement with the lack of seeds here it is.... Bernard 35 tomatoes to date Wendy 30 Geoff 34 Mr Jones 39 Idris 28 Weedy 30 And I still have more to pick. To be honest with you...there are 5 people in my household and there have been too many tomatoes for us all to eat we have ended up giving loads away so I admit to being wrong about 6 seeds not being enough but I still think Suttons were definately stingy with the amount they did have in the packet and should of warned their customers of this. All in all though a good talking point too when people see them amongst your flowers and they are nice in their pots too. I will definately be buying them again next year as they are so easy to grow and do produce lovely little fruits. Mnnnnnn I wonder what thier names will be??????
