42PD6600 Red Mist Fault
Author Name: Anonymous
Advantages: Comes with a free fault
Disadvantages: Suffers from Red Mist fault
I purchased a Hitachi 42PD6600 plasma TV from new back in 2005. I began to notice the notorious intermittent "red mist" fault unfortunately just after the warranty period of a year was up. This annoying fault makes the TV very frustrating and almost impossible to watch. After sending much correspondence and having heated conversations with Hitachi Consumer Affairs Department explaining that this is a design fault, Hitachi still made it apparent that I had to personally pay for any repairs and arrange the transport for delivery. After a month and paying over £200 to Servicespeed Ltd, Hitachi's authorised repair agent, the TV still had the same fault. I re-delivered the TV for repair a second time expecting a different component to be replaced, but Hitachi again instructed the repair agent to replace the same component. And yes you guessed it, the TV still has the same fault. It seems that even Hitachi themselves don't know how to fix this fault, despite so many other dissatisfied owners experiencing the same fault.
The moral of this story is that I haven't since, and won't be in the future buying anything with "Hitachi" written on it. After all the time dealing and expense incurred, the hassle delivering a very heavy plasma TV to and fro the repair agent, I'm no better off. I still have a duff TV. On the bright side, these days there are so many other manufacturers that have superior products, have longer warranties / better guarantees and are more competitive on price. Bye-bye Hitachi.
Summary: DON'T BUY HITACHI
