Hitachi Platara CL42PD2100Alternative Lighting of Surface (ALIS) drive-circuit technology effectively doubles the resolution of the screen while using the same number of electrodes as conventional PDP technology. This technique also extends the TV's longevity while increasing panel luminance to a superb 700cd/m2. An exceptionally wide viewing angle of 160 degrees guarantees excellent off-axis viewing, vital in a domestic environment, whatever source is being viewed. To help ensure that the display delivers the ultimate in visual detail, stability and purity Hitachi has also fitted its acclaimed Progressive Scan circuit. This takes the image fields that go to make up a single video frame and adds extra lines of information. In this latest incarnation (Motion Adaptive Progressive Scan) the circuit uses the most sophisticated predictive algorithms employed yet, to take picture resolution and smoothness to a new level. Sonically, buyers of the CL42PD2100 benefit from the fitment of a high-quality 12W RMS per channel, 1-bit digital amplifier, together with fully detachable loudspeakers. These can be placed further away from the display in order to enhance the stereo effect. Wherever users choose to place their speakers these displays offer a much richer sound quality than is commonly produced by plasma sets because they incorporate TruBass technology from SRS Labs (an external subwoofer output is also available). Sad really when you think about it. However, it is essential to make one of your biggest pastimes as enjoyable as possible and it does not come much better than 42 inches of Plasma screen. I had not really thought about one of these silly GIANT tellys before. A waste of money I exclaimed, pointing out the lifespan of the screen (about 60,000 hours max) and the rediculously huge price tag. That was until I visited a friends house. He too has a small house so space is at a premium. I was therefore shocked at how much bigger his lounge looked with his new 37 inch Plasma TV on the wall. Thats right. On the Wall. So there was my first selling point. Space saving. Gone would ...

Size never used to matter. At least not once you got up to 32". in the good old days 32" was pretty much all you ever needed - and a good job too because anything bigger weighed near 100kg and would destroy most TV cabinets! With the advent of flat panel displays and projectors, all that changed. Now size does matter because you can go all the way up to a ridiculous 70" screen or, with a projector, the wall s the limit! But why would anyone want a bigger screen than they might already have? Well for a start, there are a lot more native widescreen broadcasts than there used to be - films and football matches in particular benefit from this, after all ...
