Advantages: Great Picture
Disadvantages: Not HD Ready
The TH-42PW5 is a 42" plasma screen made by Panasonic.
As the screen itself doesn't have an integrated tuner, you'll need to purchase an additional receiver box - the 'TU-PT600' should do the trick.
In terms of appearance, this particular model is very pleasing - the grey / silver surround is fairly thin and the buttons (located on the bottom left hand corner) are small and unobtrusive.
Picture quality is fantastic. This particular model is not HD ready, so unfortunately it can't handle the higher resolution image, however, the overall sharpness is great and colours are accurately represented. Black levels are very rich without any greyness, which adds a lot of atmosphere to movies portraying night-time scenes.
This particular screen doen't have any speakers and will need to be hooked up to a home cinema system to produce sound. It is this lack of bulky side-mounted speakers however, which make this model so pleasing to look at.
Even though it's now a few years old and doesn't feature a multitiude of new features, the TH-42PW5 is an exceptional plasma screen.
If you're able to find one of these cheaply (the original price was over £2500), then I recommend you do so.
The picture quality alone makes this a brilliant model to own.
Summary: Great set

- 29/09/08 How bizarre of it not to have speakers. It would royally annoy me that trailing cords out the back would be seen when hooked up to speakers. |
