Advantages: Runs in both 50hz and 60hz, looks good

Disadvantages: No HD support

We've had our Philips 42PF9946 for about 3 years now - we bought it before the big High Definition revolution and we've regretted the purchase ever since.

The TV itself isn't too bad - the silver colour makes it look smart without attracting dust (like some black models do). There are 2 speakers located on either side of the 42 inch widescreen display, but the speakers are quite well integrated into the overall design, meaning they don't look out of place.

The TV is capable of running in 50hz or 60hz mode - which is useful for anyone that has an Xbox 360, as games can be played on either compatible mode (although you will see some image ghosting on the 60hz mode).

The TV doesn't come with integrated Freeview or Freesat, which seems standard nowadays, but wasn't 3 years ago when we bought it.

Overall, I'd say the the 42PF9946 is a good TV, it's just a pity that it lacks HD support - making it almost obsolete in today's market.

Summary: It's an okay TV, but it doesn't support HD so you'd be best to buy a different one
