My dad brought this tv about 2 years ago from comet for £1500 that included a 5 year guarantee for £150, we first had to wait 1 week for the tv to come into stock at our comet.
After we got it home it did take a while to get it up the stairs, it is a large box as you can imagine and very heavy, before hand we brought a stand with a bracket so the tv could be screwed onto the bracket instead of having to use the tv stand that came with it, be warned you cannot do this by yourself, unless you want to risk damaging your tv or yourself you must get someone to help you.
That was no problem, we got all the usual cables plugged in and set up and powered on the tv, it was a great picture, but it would be as we previously had a 28" CRT and we were loving every minute of it, until about the 20th minute when the turn just turned off.
We had turned on our xbox 360 and wanted to see how amazing it would look, it did look amazing but after 20 minutes it just turned itself off, we knew it wasn't the xbox because that was still running, we tried unplugging the plug and putting it back in but nothing the tv didnt want to know.
We then phoned comet and had to wait another 1 week for the repair man to come out and fix it, apparently it was the gas canister that powers the plasma screen, so they happily replaced that although my dad wasnt best pleased.
1 week later it went again, this time the tv turned on and we could view external sources such as the xbox or dvd player but trying to view the built in freeview box wasnt happening, and again 1 week later the repair man came out again and had to replace the inbuilt freeview player.
At this time we wanted to get a refund from comet but that was like trying to get blood out of stone, we had all sorts of excuses of why they cant replace it and the only way we saw possible was the tv being broke by accidental damage and it was beyond repair.
Although the tv itself isn't very reliable it did have a good picture, the general specs of the tv are :-
Digital Tuner with all Freeview channels
10,000:1 Contrast Ratio
Virtual Dolby Surround
1366 x 768p
HDMI Connection x2
1,400 cd/m2 Brightness
Speaker power: 2 x 15 Watts
As for getting anther Philips tv we probably would stay away from them, i'm sure most of the updated ones these days are reliable and have great picture quality but its too much hassle to risk it again, but i would recommend staying away from this specific tv.
