I really really really did not want to end up with some hideously large TV covering up one wall in the lounge like a big black technical mirror that would dominate everything else in the house however the other half was determined to get one a few months back and in the end it almost felt like a 50 inch screen was a compromise on the sizes he was originally looking at, actually I think that I have been conned as the others were just a smokescreen to get what he wanted. The funny thing is that his mates keep telling him that he should have waited as there are superior models on the market now however this might explain the fact that at £599.99 he reckoned he had got a bit of a bargain.
The TV itself is wall mounted and certainly seemed pretty easy to set up as it did not take him and a friend long to have it mounted and also set up with the cable box and other attachments for his home cinema and boys toys gadgets, apparently it has a number of ports for setting these up. If you do not want to have it wall mounted it also does come with a stand.
The TV is HD enabled which gave him a reason to sign up for a HD package in time for the World Cup. It has a 50 inch screen and also has something called Filterbright technology which is emant to enhance the plasma screen picture quality.
Certainly I was amazed at the quality of the picture, it is sharp and the colours are really in your face they are so sharp and bright, how much this is down to the quality of the screen or the HD box I'm not sure but it certainly does knock the sock off our old TV or the newer one we have in the bedroom. Watching sport and movies is a much more enjoyable and highly visual experience now. We even rigged up the Wii and game play was also pretty impressive.
The sound quality is also pretty good as we checked it out before attaching the home cinema speakers and it is pretty good and certainly loud enough. The design of the TV is pretty sleek however it is a little thicker than some other plasma screens I have seen but it is easy to clean and also easy to operate with the remote control that is provided.
For the picture quality alone would say that this is a good purchase and a product I would recommend.
This tv was an excellent bargain I got it for only £600 pounds. I window shopped at many other shops and they were selling tvs this size almost identical at around £800! I was in desperate need of a knew tv and wanted soemthing big. And this is big all right a whopping 50 inches of tv screen!
The tv looks fairly good on the wall too. Very stylish and up to date. However it is quite chunky and it sticks out a bit but not too much from the wall. Apart from the that I think it looks really good.
The picture quality on this thing is fairly good but its not 1080p which I was quite dissappointed in. 720p is still good though. A major problem I have is that some dvds it doesn't play very well as they are copies. The images are very blurred and I didn't get this problem on my small tv in my room. None the less the picture is still bright and vibrant!
The remote you get with it is a nice glossy black and has lots of buttons. On the tv you can also change the channel and volume by using the touchscreen buttons on it. I think this is a really good feature if your always losing things like me.
Overall great family tv and big is always better! Buy it if you want a nice big plasma but please put it in a big room it can make small rooms seem crowded!
This 2009 Samsung Plasma TV is HD ready but only offers 720p, it should be 1080p nowadays. But its not all bad news for this 50" monster for a start it looks impressive, it's as big as a wall. The design is great and would look neat in any front room, if you can fit it in.
The TV offers a technology dubbed Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio by Samsung; this basically creates a bigger difference between the darkest colours and lightest colours this makes it more realistic. They also brag about being able to deliver hundred of billions of colours.
Using the remote you can control all other Samsung products connected via HDMI this means the ease of use for your entire set up could be vastly improved, providing you have other Samsung products. Also the stand swivels, which for a TV this size, is quite useful for dusting and stuff of that nature.
This TV is for you if you want a big good quality TV or you already have some Panasonic equipment. So altogether a great TV but not quite as good as the Sony Bravia range.
