Having had this tv for just over two months now i am driven crazy by the constant auto adjusting brightness. Whenever there is a bright object near the centre of the screen the whole screen dims and then goes back to normal. In fast moving broadcasts this can result in a strobelight effect as if the tv struggles to focus. A quick google shows many people having similar issues and apparently is because of a rather aggressive Automatic Brightness Limiter which appears to be in most newer plasmas. This is supposed to stop the screen getting too bright, therefore putting pressure on the power supply and also helping Samsung get their green eco propaganda splashed all over the box. Sounds alright if it actually works but it doesnt properly. I read that Panasonic also had this feature but their ABL is implemented correctly and isnt as aggresive.
The colours on this tv are great once calibrated but sound is mediocre but connect it to a separate cinema sound system for best use. Overall the tv when it works properly is decent for the money but its let down by this auto brightness adjusting feature. I have disabled all eco settings and im running latest firmware which unfortunately dont make a blind bit of difference.
Samsung have replaced the main board and the panel and the issue is still present so it must be an issue, although not exclusive, to this model.
Samsung customer service are worse than useless and i will never buy another tv from them again. For the sake of your sanity please avoid this tv.
As it stands im waiting on Samsung getting back to me again to advise what they are going to do next. Hopefully i will get a refund so i can purchase another model.
