As I had decided that I was going to buy my son some playmobil for Christmas my mum asked would I like her to buy him something too. I said that would be a good idea and so she chose to order him the take along farm set from her catalogue which I believe cost around £50.00 but you can get the set cheaper from places like tesco direct where it will cost £34.97.
The playmobil farm comes in the standard playmobil blue box which shows a picture of the farm set up on the front so as always you are given a very good idea of what you are buying from the box which I think is a great thing.
The farm is basically like a little house and in many ways looks like a small dolls house except it has pictures of farm house type scenes on it. When my son opened the box up my younger brother (who isn't really young and should know better) kept asking why my son had a dolls house and in many ways I think this affected my son in playing with the set as he wasn't as interested in it after that. The farm feels of brilliant quality which is what I have found with all playmobil products my son has received and I really feel they will last many years as long as care is taken when playing. The farm has a clasp on the sides so it can close up securely and you can store all your farm pieces inside. It also has a carry handle for easy transportation.
There is no setting up required with this farm set other than taking the animals and bits out of the plastic bags that they come in. With this set you do get a lot of accessories including a couple of farmers and their child as well as rabbits, horses, fences, a ladder and some barrels of food, small carrots and such like. It seems to be the trend with playmobil that many of the accessories are really tiny and so I would say that you need to either supervise young children who may be playing with the set or make sure that they are at least four years of age.
I like the fact that this take along farm opens up into a barn setting with all the little features that it has as it is literally an open up and play toy. I like the fact that you can store all the little bits inside the farm securely and hopefully manage not to lose them under the sofa and things.
Despite how well made this farm set is I haven't seen my son play with it much and I think this is partially because of my stupid brothers comments on Christmas day. However, I do think that compared to the police station and pirate dinghy set that my son also received that this one seems slightly more babyish. The age range on the farm is still age 4+ but it does seem less like his thing. He has played with the set and I have encouraged him to interchange the set with his police station as well as some of the other farm animals that he has but he just seems less interested with this one. I think perhaps if the set came with a tractor or something as well as all the tiny animals it may hold his interest more. Of course you can purchase these things separately which I would imagine is the hope for the playmobil people!
I do think that some children would love this set and get so much enjoyment from it but for my son he just doesn't seem to get excited by this. I can see where he is coming from as there is only so much you can do with moving little animals around and things, and of course it is much more exciting to chase baddies on a police motorbike! It is a shame that my son doesn't really play with this set but if your child is into farms and animals they may well love this set!
Thank you for reading my review!
