This was a small Playmobil set we got recently for my son's birthday. We had been lucky to get it half price in a sale for £5 so it's been a great little addition for a reasonable price.
In this set you get a lady zoo keeper, a tree combination that stands in a bit grass mound. A butterfly, a pitchfork, straw, 3 koalas which are 2 adults and 1 baby that can sit on the back of the parents, and a mother and baby kangaroo.
This is fairly straight forward to do there is only really the trees to build with the various bits of branches and foliage on it with prompting it was easy for my 4 year old to construct. The rest is just arranging the animals and food and flowers as you would like them to be.
As my son is animal mad when we saw this on sale we hoped we would be on to a winner as both kolas and kangaroos are animals we don't have in any of our other animal sets. My son was thrilled to open this present and see the animals in it and couldn't wait for it to be built. Since it has been built the main focus of his play has to been to have the kolas up and down the trees and the kangaroos bounce around the carpet. He tends to have these more as free animals as in a safari rather than a zoo enclosure.
The trees and foliage can be arranged in different ways so it allows my son to be a bit creative in where he wants the flowers and butterflies to best display them to his heart's content. One of the nice things about the kangaroo is the way in which it is so easy to open and close the pouch so it means my son can fit the joey in and out as he pleases and it is also secure enough to keep the joey inside when my son practices bouncing the kangaroo around the house. The koala baby fits on either of the adult animals easily and again stays on when the animals climb the trees or hang off some of the branches. I am pleased with the construction of these as they allow my son to play with them without any frustration of bits not doing what he wants them to.
The trees are a little less well made and one has already got a snapped off twig that we have noticed so these could be a bit better made in my opinion and this is the only thing that lets down the set.
We have used the animals at times to talk about Australia and where these animals live and what they eat so there has been a bit of a learning aspect to some of our play. Finding out about animals is always something that interests my son so this learning has not only being directed by us but has been prompted by our son as he wants to learn more about the animals he plays with.
The set is suitable for children 4 upwards and I would have to agree with this there are a lot of small bits in the set such as the butterfly flowers and the two babies in the set these are really small and can be easily lost or in the case of the young children swallowed.
This is a great little set that will complement any animal play set you have whether it's Playmobil ELC or similar and my son uses his to expand his other zoo animals for imaginative play. The animals are charming and are well made and allow for lots of imaginative play which my son enjoys. It has also allowed us to talk about the animals for him to learn more about them. The only let down as far as I am concerned is the trees seem to be less well made. At around £5-9 depending on offers I think it is well worth its money for the enjoyment my son gets from it.
