a nice set to start your child with.

Over the last year and a half Playmobil has become a big thing in our house alongside Lego it is one of both my son's favourite toys. Their collection is slowly building up nicely and now my youngest son is starting to get a lot of enjoyment out of the sets we bought for my eldest son. He particularly likes the sets with animals in. The first set we purchased for my youngest son was what I call a mini set. It's the Playmobil dog family number 5125 (all the Playmobil sets have numbers).

The mini set comes in a smallish cardboard box covered in lovely pictures of the set and on the back of the box is detailed contains of what the set contains. The set contains eight pieces so you can see why I call it a mini set. Even though the box contains only a small amount of pieces the picture on the front of the box makes it very appealing to a small child. All the pieces are contained in a plastic sealed bag inside of the box before assembling.

The set contains a small dog kennel that has a roof that can be de-attached. The dog kennel measures roughly 8cms across and 5cms in height and fits all the three dogs in it at a squeeze. There are three dogs within in this small set. There is a large black dog which my son likes to call the daddy dog but it could easily be a mummy too, a small black dog and a small brown dog presumably the puppies of the family. The puppies don't have any moving body parts but the big dog does with a head that bends up and down and back legs that move together. The big dog also comes with a lead that slips over its head and there is a small yellow bowl for the dogs and a little white bone. Like all Playmobil sets there is a person, a boy who can hold onto the dog lead. He is a typical Playmobil person with a head that swivels, arms to move and a waist that bends so they can sit down. He always comes with a removable blue cap. And that is the set complete.

My youngest son who turned four today loved this set from the moment he got it and was extremely excited to see it contained dogs and little ones at that. He has had the set for over a month now and still has all the pieces to it. The great thing about Playmobil is it really gets the imagination going and since my son has started playing with Playmobil I have seen his imagination developing more. The detail to the pieces always amazes me and this set doesn't disappoint. The handle end of the lead looks just like what I call a clippy dog lead and looks so realistic to me. Even though the set is particular small my son does get a lot of enjoyment out of it alone. He likes to look after his dogs like they are his real pets pretending to feed them, walk them and play with their bone with them. The perfect pet in my eyes, no mess! He does also include them in some of the other sets my son's have and share. But your child can get a lot of enjoyment out of the set without adding too it.

The set is recommended for children aged 4 to 10 years and for most of the sets I would completely agree with this as the pieces are small and even though they are very durable considering their size they can still break if too much force is used on them. My youngest son has been playing with Playmobil since he was three as my older son has some sets but I did notice to begin with he struggled with the moving of the pieces carefully as they are so small. Over the year he has got a lot better and is less heavy handed with them. This particular set I would say would be suitable for children maybe just under four if they can be trusted with very small pieces. I can see my sons getting a lot of enjoyment out of Playmobil for a good few years to come yet.

Playmobil is available in many high streets stores. I am not completely sure about this set as I bought it online at Amazon. It retails at £6.99 which for Playmobil I think is a fair price. I managed to get it for just under £5 and that is what it is currently priced at on Amazon. For £5 you get a great product that both me and my son are happy with.
