Champions of Norrath: Realms of EverQuest (PS2)
by alnilam
There are not many multi-player (offline) games that are not sport related so this one was (and is) a jewel!
It is a action-adventure game similar to Baldur's gate (if you are familiar to it)
and it offers a single player and a multi-player (for up to 4 players!) game mode. I have been playing solo game and two player ... since I do not have that add-on for PS for more players (although I have seen it does not cost much so I am considering buying it).
So first I must mention that graphics of this game are pretty awesome, some of the details are really fascinating.
You start the game by choosing a character - you can choose from 5 different character types and both are available in both genres, which is really great because not only can you choose your genre but this also allows players to select two characters of the same type if they wish to.
After you have selected the character you can customize the appearance of it to your liking - change hair, skin... After that you get some points to distribute between your primary skills (strengt, stamina....) and you are ready to go.
You enter a world of quests and defeating monsters. Levels are big but not to big, I would say that the measurement is just right so you don't get bored with the same scenario - I remember playing Baldur's gate and some of the levels were too big and I got bored with the same style of the rooms and such. Quests are understandable and achievable and have a good variety it't not all about retrieve or kill.
Your character levels up as he or she gains experience and with each level you get some points to upgrade your primary skills and some skill points which you use to choose/upgrade your special abilities or spells). You also collect weapons (normal or magical) from killed opponents which you can equip or sell (or buy) in the shop. A thing that I quite like with weapons and armour is that not only it has different stats it has different appearance and this is seen on your characters look.
I should not write to much of the content because it would be a spoiler I can only say that storyline is good enough.
When you finish the game your character is saved (well it is saved even if you have not finished it and you can start from beginning with your level upped hero) and you can start again on a more difficult level of game.
I think this is a great game if you like the genre and it is fun to play multi-player, I would recommend buying it.
The only disadvantage I found with it is that it is a little bit short if you are a hard core player. Read the complete review |

Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories (PS2)
by nagi1
At last a sequel to a game which has a lot of charater building and butt kicking! As usual the hcaracters from the first don't dominate this game but we have plenty of cameos from various characters from other Koei series. I won't lie I was dissapointed not to see the blood thristy demon lord Laharl on the front cover but this game takes ... a different angle on ruling demon lords. This time it focuses on the consequences of The God of demon Lords Zennon, throwing his weight around, cursing a human here and there and causing general fuss in the region of Veldime.
As Adell's proclaims of breaking the curse on his family and others who have been turned to demons and slowly losing all there humanity including memory do tend to get annoying afterall that is his style ! You do have other charters who counter that do gooding nature. Bringing Etna back with a new scheme of taking over without the help of Laharl really adds a buzz to the game and being able to control the speear bearing demon adds tremendously to the weak group. The type of humoniods and demons available to make are larger and I was thrilled to see you can capture them too! The throwing and lifting technique never fails to amuse.
Starting new cycles means you can keep all your characters - even your MAIN CHARATERS keep there super high level from the end of the game unlike Disgaea 1, so if you really want to make your characters strong, rebirth them at the start and gradually level them up again. The stealing option never really grew on me apart from in Makai Kingdom, so i tend to level them up in the good ole' item world.
The soundtrack is impecable, keeping some classic tuns from the original but with twists and new ballads for Etna, the dark hero and even Mid-boss. If it didn't come free with the game I would bought it anyway !
What more can I say? Sharper graphics, new story, cameos, prinnies galore? Read the complete review |

Final Fantasy X (PS2)
by Naruto55
FFX is one of the best games I have played in a long time the battle system is great the story is ok not the best but much better than the old FF stories. The story is that you play as Tidus from the great land of Zanarkand the star player of the Zanarkand Abes which is a blitzball team, blitzball is just like football but underwater, ... yes underwater how they hold they breath under the water for that long I have not idea but this is FF remember it does not have to make sense. So Tidus is sent in time to meet Rikku an Al bhed she tells you about a powerful monster that sucked you up to send you forward in time, than after sin attacks you again you get sent away again and meet every that will be in your party:
* Yuna, you meet in the temple
* Wakka, straight away after sin attacks you for the 2nd time
* Lulu, in the temple
* Kimahri Ronso, after he tries to kill you, yes he does
* Auron, at the beginning of the game to fight some enemies and then a bit later on at a city called Luca
* Rikku, after meeting her after sin attacks you the first time you then meet her later when you find her washed up on the side of a path way
But after you are attacked by sin for the 2nd time Wakka awakes you up by hitting you with his ball, after running about into town, Tidus then finds out he is in the future and has to make out that he was poisoned by sin toxin that is why he says all the weird stuff he does. After meeting Yuna who is becoming a summoner to defeat sin, you go on a journey to get new aeons at the new temples to get the final aeon and kill sin, later on in the game you find out who sin really is and the real secret why Tidus went to the future I will not tell you in this review because it would spoil the whole game and there would be no point playing the game, but let me just say it has one of the best ending and so many twists in the story they are amazing. Some of the good points in this game are the fact that it is very easy to level up characters because you do not have levels you have something called sphere grid which is very easy to use and you can make a character super powerful with just some simple training. Some of the bad points in the game are the fact that some of the characters are so annoying and you have to train them up yet they keep dying because you have not been able to find a health +200 on the sphere grid, But overall this is a very good game and very cheap now and a must have for any fan of RPG's or Final fantasy's games.
