I have written reviews on some game franchises which define their genre...in this way ace combat defines the flight sim genre on consoles , in addition, this game defines this franchise...I think (without playing fires of liberation , ace combat 6) this is the best of the lot.
It has the usual great graphics, soundtrack and plot, the same osea/gracemaria countries come into play, its all a bit reminiscent of the us/russia cold war really. You command a squadron in later missions as in ace combat 5, but as in ace combat 4 you also have the inclusion of ace aggressor squadrons, treated as celebraties by their respective forces. the difference is rather then just one ace squadron, you fight several, all have their own personalities and gimmicks (like the squadron that flys the su-32 berkrut). the only problem is you have to unlock some of them, and I couldent work out how to do that in all cases.
The missions are great, like the where you fight off a huge bomber aircraft , bit ficticously stupid, but fun never the less
I really enjoy playing this game, i want to be a pilot so that is probably a large part of the reason i enjoy it so much. However i do believe it appeals to a large range of people, for example its ease of play means that all age ranges could enjoy it and it and the airplane fanatics amongst us will admire the games technical detail and accurate aircraft traits. The graphics in this game i think are very good and it is by far the best aircraft simulator game for Play Station 2, no others even come close to Ace Combat Zero. For me, this game makes me want to be a pilot even more each time i play it but at the same time, its ease of skill means that you get and understated idea of how being a real pilot must be with a shortage of weapons and less than ideal living room comfort.
Defend the country of Ustio against an enemy that is smarter, faster and deadlier than any that have come before. Relive the events fifteen years prior to Ace Combat 5. Welcome to the dogfight of your life - The Belkan War.
