Advantages: Good game, lots of units, lots of civiliations

Disadvantages: I prefer the pc verison

Age of empires 2, the age of kings, is another real time strategy game made by the Age of empires group. In this game, you can play as a whole host of different civilizations, such as the vikings, the English, the Japanese, the Chinese, Persians and so on. Each civilization has its own special "tech tree". What this means, is that for certain civilizations, certain upgrades are available. For example, the Chinese can research more into gunpowder than any other class, meaning they get the best cannons and hand cannon soliders!

Whats more, is that each class has its own "special unit". For example, the English get the Longbow man, which is not available for any other class.

So how does this game work?
You start of each level with a town center, and one or two villagers. You must navigate the villagers to collect resources, such as food and wood, and use them to construct buildings. After constructing the buildings, you must use resources to fund research, fund your army, and fund building more constructions. By doing research, you can allow more types of units and building to be built, and you can increase the "stats" of your building and units. For example, by researching armour, you can give your units a 10% health increase.
The graphics on this game don't really match the newer games, but for its age, the graphics are surprisingly good. It is my belief that if you claim to be a RTS game fan, then you must at least own on age of empires game, as for me, this is the "main" game for old time rts!
This game is really good, but on the ps2 console, it does not feel as natural or as good as if you play the game on a computer, so my advice would be to not bother getting the ps2 version, but save up for the pc version if you want this game. However, the only downside to this is that you will need some free hard disk space for this game, where as the ps2 you do not need any.
