... like a walk in the park on a sunny day. Things will jump out at you and you will have to shoot them but the play is slow and the charachters movements are slow to. Because of all the dark rainy scenes you will notice that your TV needs a polish especially on a bright day but what does that say for the game ? The graphics are okay but after the atmosphere of Resident Evil it is a very poor comparison. This is not a game to get hooked on or feel part of but it will be one you buy and keep trying to get into it bec...more

Long before the days of Resident Evil, or indeed Silent Hill there was Alone In The Dark. Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare is the forth instalment in the series, and has the potential to be the best. Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare is available for the PC, and PSONE, as well as the PS2. GRAPHICS The gamer is treated to some very nice FMV as Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare commences. The FMV is graphically superb - no great surprise here. When in the game, the areas, and objects are all fairly detailed, although the graphics are occasionally jagged spoiling the overall smooth feel to the game (this usually only occurs with characters). Premium Review Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (630 words)

Right from the beginning, the game is all atmosphere. Investigating a friend’s murder, you find yourself on Shadow Island (ok ok, so the name of the island is a little ham-handed) looking for clues to the murder and those responsible. To begin with, the interface is almost completely keyboard driven. I have to admit that I am not a big fan of playing any game without a mouse, but in this case, the keyboard interface isn’t terrible. They managed to keep the controls simple, without sacrificing too much of the flexibility that these games usually boast. However, there are some interface gaps that are irritating to say the least. Now, having said that, there is ...  Read the complete review

Alone In The Dark - The New Nightmare (PS2): Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare  (245 words)

The first Alone In The Dark, on the PC, was somewhat of a milestone and it s easy to see why. The then great animation and fluid movement stood out from the stiff click and play titles so popular at the time. But compared to the other two reigning graphic adventure titles for the PlayStation, Resident Evil and Fade To Black, Alone In The Dark comes up empty. You take control of detective Edward Carnby, a guy who could use a little exercise, who must rescue a little girl, kidnapped by One-Eyed Jack and his band of pirates. For all its spooky music and texture mapped environments, Alone In The Dark never really gets up to speed. One major problem lies ...  Read the complete review

The title and description of the game sound excellent. Do you have the stomach to play this game? Of course you do. Unlike Resident Evil where you are scared to open the door and you lower the volume on some levels because your heart just can't take it , alone in the dark is just like a walk in the park on a sunny day. Things will jump out at you and you will have to shoot them but the play is slow and the charachters movements are slow to.
